Glowing Lights at the ALC

Last Saturday night members of the Aleph Learning Centre, the popular Cheder at Hampstead Garden Suburb Synagogue, took part in a unique Havdallah service! The ‘glow in the dark’ musical event, was the first of its kind and attracted over 160 excited students and parents.

The evening began with a variety of art and craft activities where children could create a range of beautiful Havdallah memorabilia including Havdallah place mats and spice 'towers'. Following these activities, everyone gathered in a circle. The lights were dimmed, the live music began, and the glow in the dark sticks came out! Rebbetzen Freda shared a story to begin and our community Rabbis, Rabbi Kaplan and Rabbi Levene then lead the beautiful service with keyboard and guitar accompaniment.

The Havdallah was followed by a musical Kumzitz of Jewish songs. The wonderful atmosphere and glowing lights lit up the darkened hall. The evening wound down with complimentary pizza and snacks for all. The children’s faces were glowing as they headed home from this special event created and arranged by our ALC Director Chayli Fehler.

Miranda Leighton a parent of two children at the ALC explained 'It was a lovely community atmosphere. We found it very interesting to have the service explained and this made it more meaningful'

Simon Maurice a Co chair of the ALC shared, 'there was a great spirit at the event. Everyone joined in straight after Shabbat to bring to all together. We had to drag the kids away at the end of the evening'
