Belmont Salutes Scouting and Guiding

A special Shabbat service for the Brownies of the 2nd Belmont Pack and the Beavers, Cubs and Scouts of 5th Stanmore Scout Group, together with all their leaders, was held at Belmont United Synagogue.

All the Section flags were proudly on show and more than 45 children, together with their families, came together for the event. After taking part in their own special activity, the children joined the main shul towards the end of the service, when three of the pre-Barmitzvah Scouts sang Anim Zemirot.

Rabbi Elchonon Feldman addressed the children after Adon Olam, starting with his experiences as a Cub and Scout in Brooklyn and how much he had enjoyed the new opportunities it gave him as well as the chance to try many different activities. He also thanked all the Leaders for their continued efforts and hard work on the children's behalf. The morning closed with all the children and Leaders re-affirming the Promises they made when invested, after which Rabbi Elchonon was presented with a 5th Stanmore baseball cap - which he promptly put on!

The congregation then enjoyed a bumper ice-cream kiddush with plenty of nosh and sweets, and fairy cakes specially made by the Brownies.

Guiding and Scouting is thriving at Belmont Shul, with the 2nd Belmont Guides due to re-open in September by popular demand, and the Leaders are always pleased to hear from prospective members of all Scout and Guide Sections.
