On Wednesday 12th September, over 100 British gap year students in Israel came together in Jerusalem, in the Gan Hapaamon park, for Tribe Israel’s first event of the year – Picnic in the Park.
The British gap year students came from all different Israel gap year programmes including Bnei Akiva, FZY and various seminaries and yeshivot including Midreshet Moria for girls, Midreshet HaRova for girls, Yeshivat Ha Kotel, Yeshivat Eretz Hatzvi to name but a few. Picnic in the Park was a great way for the participants to find out all that Tribe Israel has to offer for British students during their time in Israel, including the annual Shabbaton and the Tribe Israel Leadership Training programme – TILT. Participants were also able to meet the Tribe Israel Madrichim, Sarah and James Proops and Leanne and Yisroel Binstock, the United Synagogue Israel Office team, and, of course, each other.
The afternoon was a resounding success. Gaby Godfrey, Tribe Israel Executive commented: “The students seem really motivated and enthusiastic. We told them about all our upcoming events and introduced ourselves and the madrichim who will be spending time with them throughout the year. The turn out was much larger than last year and we are really excited for the start of a great year ahead!”
Zechariah Creeger at Yeshivat Hakotel said: “It was great to see all my friends, meet new people and hear about the upcoming Tribe events. Even away from home Tribe are still there looking after us! We can’t wait for the next one!”
